  • Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Conditioner

The shampoo is thick and creamy and looks like a conditioner. I has an awesome lather and left my hair soft enough to not really need a conditioner. But with the colder, drier air of winter approaching, I took the preemptive action of applying the conditioner too. It is also super rich and rinsed clean, leaving behind very silky strands. Both the shampoo and conditioner look and smell a bit unusual. They both look like puried bananas, which the label says is due to the Buriti Oil that it contains (Aveda’s website says Buriti Oil is derived “from the buriti palm in Brazil—called the “tree of life” by Amazon cultures, because everything necessary for survival can be sourced from the tree. The oil enriches our cupuaçu conditioning complex.”) The website also says the formulas have a “relaxing floral aroma blend with certified organic palmarosa, ylang ylang and rose geranium, plus a hint of vanilla.” I didn’t catch the floral aroma at all, rather I thought they smelt like a health food store - in a not unpleasant way. But the unusual color and scent are very minor issues for such great products.

    DDF Protect and Correct

    Look Younger/Stay Younger Looking

I didn’t have long enough to try out this cream to see if it tones down discoloration, but I think the formula itself helps give you a little glow with its slight sheen, to make you look instantly a little brighter. I don’t have any sun spots, but I do have some red acne scars that I’d like to see fade faster that I hope this formula will work on.

    Broadway Nails Real Life

    Instant manicure!

I've never been one for fake nails (except for before the age of 12 - they were the bomb then!). I guess I hadn't really checked out the offerings in a long time, because I'd always thought they looked very fake and witchy. But checking out Broadway Nails Real Life French Nail Kit, I was surprised at how nice these nails look! The shape and color is very realistic. They aren't witchy at all and come in a variety of short lengths. The cool thing about these nails is that they have an easy application, clean break tab, which is a little tab on the tip of the nail that you can grasp to help you place. Using the glue provided in the box, you put glue on the inside if the fake nail and on your nail. Holding the tab, you place the nail and wait a second for the glue to dry. Then you twist and break off the tab. There's a little bit of tab left, so you use the provided file to file it down. You can also use the file to file the sides of the nails, before applying them, to get a perfect fit. I didn't wear the nails for more than a few days, but the box says they'll stay put for 10 days. And I believe it - to remove the glue, I had to soak my nails in polish remover for a few minutes to get that glue to loosen. Although not something I would wear on a regular basis, I will definitely try these again. They're perfect for a quick "manicure". If you have an event to go to and want to look polished (pun intended!) or you are traveling and want to do your nails in your hotel room or you just want to have a french manicure, but don't have the nail length, time or money to have it done in a salon, definitely check these out!

  • Bliss Triple Oxygen Self-Activating Facial With O2 Molecules

This fast acting (5 minutes) easy to apply mask is designed to help brighten your complexion when your skin starts to look dull and tired. After washing your face, you rub a few pumps of the mask onto your face and then rinse off after 5 minutes. The cool thing is that the mask comes out as a gel, but foams and bubbles on your face. It has a gentle bubbly tingle and a delicious and invigorating orange scent. I love it! My face feels fresh and energized after every time I use it. My husband enjoyed it too, saying that it was very "refreshing".

Frizz-Ease Straight Ahead Style-Starting Daily Conditioner

Helps a lot, but doesn't give you a blow out

The Straight Ahead Shampoo and Conditioner were both rich formulas with a subtle scent. The shampoo lathered well and the conditioner left my hair feeling sleek after only a one minute application. I air dried my hair one day and blew it straight on another. On the air dry day I noticed a decrease in the frizzies, but they were still there. On the blow dry day, my style was definitely sleeker and my hair didn’t feel as dry throughout the day as it had been.

  • L'Oreal Paris Studio Line Perfect Fix Ultra-Fine Spray Finishing Hairspray

I don't often use hairspray. I generally find it to be too sticky and stinky for every day use. When I tried out this hairspray, I used it on an updo to see if it would help it last a little longer. The thing I really liked about this hairspray was the fine mist of it. After the scare of CFC's years ago, I'd only used pump bottles, but you have to apply a lot of those sprays to get full coverage. With the spray on this bottle, you don't have to apply a lot to get an even coating. I also liked that, while it kept fine hairs in place, it didn't give me helmet hair. It definitely still had a bit of odor, but not the stink that can linger on your hair all day like some other sprays.

  • L'Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Conditioner

The Conditioner is a pretty thick formula that was light pink and smelled slightly of berries. A small amount coated my hair well and didn't need long to absorb. I let my hair air dry one day and blow dried on another. Both resulted in very shiny and very soft hair. So soft that an updo the next day was frustratingly impossible, as my hair was just too slick to stay put. I still had some frizzies, but this formula doesn't say it targets that symptom.

  • Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation

    Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation

Not right for my skin type

I’ve tried this foundation a few times and don’t think it’s the right daytime foundation for me. I have skin that tends to be oily, so adding a foundation with a hint of sheen to it made me look like an oil slick by the end of the day. Adding powder helped tone down the oily look, but really defeated the purpose of wearing an illuminating formula. I did, however, love wearing it out for the evening. Starting with a clean face and only wearing the makeup for about 5 hours, looked gorgeous. If you have normal or dry skin, this foundation will probably work really well for you. If you feel your complexion is looking a little dull, this could also work really well for you. The illuminating part of the foundation can really help you look awake too and isn’t overly shimmery. The formula itself is very lightweight but gave pretty good coverage. I had to be careful though, not to wear too shimmery of an eyeshadow with it, as the overall effect was a but too sparkly. Another way to wear this foundation that worked well for me and might be a better daytime option if you think it is a too illuminating for the office, is to use it like a highlighter. I found that a little on the apples of my cheeks was an excellent and very subtle highlighter.
