How to: Valentine's Day Ombre Nails!

Hey everyone!

Valentines Day is right around the corner and love is in the air! That being said I'm going to show you how to do an adorable ombre nail fit for Aphrodite herself!

You will need
2-4 Valentine related colors (reds, pinks, purples)
Makeup sponge
Water
Plastic, wax paper (any kind of paper will do really)
Nail polish remover
Cotton swabs
Clear polish
Glitter polish of any color (optional)

Step one: Apply a coat of the lightest nail polish in your chosen polishes and give that a minute to dry.

Step two: Go ahead and unscrew the tops of your nail polishes so they'll be ready to go. You'll have to move fairly quickly so that the polish doesn't dry on the sponge before you apply it to the nail.

Step three: Lay whatever kind of paper or plastic you chose in front of you. Make sure it's something you don't mind getting nail polish on.

Step four: Wet your makeup sponge. Make sure its thoroughly saturated, then squeeze out the excess water. It should be damp not wet. This ensures that your nail polish will not absorb too quickly into the sponge.

Step five: Stripe your sponge with nail polish, as shown below.

Step six: Bounce the sponge a couple times on your paper or plastic while moving it slightly as you do so. This will give us that gradient look. This is a crucial step! If you don't do this you will end up with a hard line on the nail and you will lose the ombre effect. Once you've completed this step, you should be left with something resembling the photo shown below.

Step seven: Quickly place the sponge on your nail polish side down. You may need to repeat to blur the line a bit. Don't worry about getting polish on your fingers, that's what you have the cotton swabs and nail polish remover for :)

Repeat steps 5-7 until all nails are complete.

Step eight: Once that's all dry, go over the nails with a clear top coat to give them some shine and even out the texture. If you're feeling really crazy, apply a glitter polish to a couple of nails to really set off the look :)

Step nine: If you made a mess on your fingers, put a little nail polish remover on a cotton swab and clean that up.

Step ten: Spread the love with your fabulous Valentine's Day ombre nails!! <3 data-blogger-escaped-br="">
